November 21, 2006 Habakkuk 3:1-10 (11-19) My Thoughts: The book of Habakkuk, chapter three has an additional piece of information that brings greater understanding to a picture The Lord gave me of Himself three years ago. I, like Habakkuk was aware of the times around me and there were things going on in the church and the world that I didn't understand. What I finally understood the picture to be, was the image that God wanted revealed of Himself to His church. That image has a name. It is 'Ancient of Days'. The importance of that image for me and the 'church' and the Israelites during the time of Habakkuk is that it portrays our God as Sovereign, Eternal, Mighty, and Victorious. I don't know about you, but I need to know that God is knowledgable, capable, and will bring to the rightful end, all things. The new piece of information is in chapter3:4b,"He had rays flashing from His hand, And there His power was hidden." The picture God gave me of Himself had the power going out in lightning bolts to accomplish His will. His power was no longer hidden. There was also a condition that existed for His power to accomplish His will and that was I had to be looking at Him, not the problem so He, not I, could accomplish His will. That is what Habakkuk did in verses 17-19. He kept his eyes on The Lord, rejoicing in Him through it all and The Lord delivered them in His time and His way. Today's Challenge: Today, the battle continues, but the battle is for the hearts and souls of men. We as the Church Universal must keep our eyes on the Lord. He will do His transforming work in us so that we can reveal His glory to those who have eyes to see Him in us. No matter what your circumstance is today, it is bigger than you are, but not bigger than your God. He has orchestrated it that way so that He will be seen, not you. As in Habakkuks time, so in ours, Rejoice in the Lord. His power is going out to deliver His people this very day. Prayer: God have mercy on us. We have turned from you and tried to do things our own way. We have even become ensnared in the subtle sin that surrounds and bombards us. We are powerless on our own. We look to you. Send forth Your power to deliver. Accomplish Your will through us. We surrender. We are powerless to accomplish that which is needed in our lives. Thank You for not abandoning us at so great a time in the history of your people. This generation and the next praise you. Please protect this and the next from the evil one. Let You will be done on earth and in us, as in heaven. You are God and there is no other. Amen Tomorrow's Scripture: Malachi 1:1,6-14 and Psalm 65
