My thoughts: These verses are conclusive that once we receive salvation, our salvation is as secure as the corner stone upon which it is based. Jesus is the everlasting cornerstone. Doubts about my salvation cannot weaken this Stone, but can weaken my faith. Salvation is not contingent upon my faith remaining strong, but upon the corner stone remaining strong. My faith in the strength of the cornerstone, Jesus, is what saved me. But what maintains my salvation is not my faith, but the strength of the cornerstone. Verse 7 states, "This precious value, then, is for you who believe......" It did not say "for you who maintain a strong faith." A Christian who believes that he/she can lose their salvation do not accept that each time he becomes depressed, it is proof that our faith can waver. But it does not prove that our salvation can. Today's challenge: Lets devote more time to building our faith, not for the purpose of maintaining our salvation, because that cornerstone has already been built. Lets build our faith according to verse 5. "you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." To me, this means the house is still being built and won't be completed to God's satisfaction until our faith is strong enough to produce good works (spiritual sacrifices). Also, note in the above verse, "you also, as living stones, are being built up......." If we are being built up, God is doing the building. Today's prayer: Father, please give me more faith, a stronger faith, one that is equipped to finish your house. In Jesus' name, amen. Tomorrow's reading: John 14:1-14
